English

ENGLISH AT ST. GILES' Children at St Giles' are fully immersed in reading on arrival in school! We tell stories, act out stories and enjoy a variety of genres. Religious Education

We are a Church of England school and we follow the Guildford Diocesan scheme of work for Religious Education. RE is viewed as a Core subject and has the same value as English and Maths in our school.

History

Our aim is to teach pupils about changes and events in living memory and beyond. Children learn about the lives of significant individuals, events and places. We encourage pupils to use researching skills to find out and record information in a variety of ways such as newspaper reports or information texts, linking topics across the curriculum.

Art and Design

Pupils will use a range of materials and techniques to produce artwork such as drawing, painting and sculpture. They will learn to use subject related vocabulary such as colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space and about the work of different artists.

Geography

Our aim is to teach pupils about the world around them in an engaging way, using the local area, maps, technology and information texts to develop pupil’s knowledge of; location, places, human and physical geography and geographical skills and field work.

Science

In Science, children will explore the natural and man-made world around them. They will be encouraged to be curious and ask questions about what they notice.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

At St Giles, we follow the Jigsaw scheme to deliver PSHE. Jigsaw brings together PSHE Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.

Music

Music at St. Giles features heavily in daily life. Each Monday we have a singing assembly where we learn a range of songs.

Outdoor Learning

At St Giles we understand the importance of using places other than the classroom for teaching and learning.

Physical Education

PE forms an important part of our school curriculum and we are fortunate to have a large hall at St Giles’ which has a wide range of PE equipment such as mats, climbing frames and benches.

Computing

Technology is essential to everyday life and ‘digital thinking’ is a vital skill when it comes to participating in an increasingly digital world.
