SEND - SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY

At St Giles’ C of E Infant School, we are proud of our inclusive, nurturing ethos. We are committed to children achieving their full potential and believe this is gained through outstanding teaching, high expectations of behaviour and an environment where they feel happy, safe, valued and respected.

All pupils receive high quality teaching using a range of approaches to ensure the curriculum matches their needs. Children sometimes experience difficulties in their learning and require additional support to accelerate their progress to enable them to work at or above age related expectations.

Our SENCo, Miss Mutch, works closely with class teachers and parents to identify at the earliest opportunity children who may need additional support. We then decide on appropriate support options, strategies and interventions. We regularly review the provision we put in place to ensure we are supporting children to make the best possible progress in their learning.

SEND support encompasses all areas of the child’s development which include:

  • If the pupil has a cognition or learning need
  • If the pupil has a social, emotional or mental health needs
  • If the pupil has a physical, medical or sensory need
  • If the pupil has social communication or language needs

We value the partnership between home and school and encourage parents to share concerns or information as soon as a need arises. We are always there to listen and advise.

If you have any questions or concerns Miss Mutch can be contacted via email senco@stgiles.surrey.sch.uk.

Our SEND governor is Mrs. Penni Thornton, who can be contacted on pthornton@stgiles.surrey.sch.uk
