CLASS REPRESENTATIVE – JOB DESCRIPTION / GUIDELINES

  1. Compile and distribute the class list to your class as instructed by the PTA secretary.
  2. Organise social events for parents, on a termly basis if possible.
  3. Organise cake sales as and when PTA decide to run one – usually a couple per year.
  4. Organise collections for relevant teaching staff at the end of the school year.  Class collections are not normally done any other time of the year.
  5. Liaise with parents, school and PTA committee to facilitate two way flow of information and clarify any points raised, maintaining confidentiality where appropriate.
  6. Attend PTA committee meetings.
  7. Market forthcoming PTA events to parents and enlist support where needed.
  8. Use class list information to provide a telephone cascade for use in emergencies or where information needs to be distributed quickly.
  9. Ensure that any new parents joining the school during the year are introduced and given all relevant information.

NB.  An existing parent with knowledge of the school is recommended for the post of Class Representative for the Reception class – the job can be shared and this has worked successfully in the past.

Practicalities:
a)         It is very important that any communication with parents is approved by the Head before it goes out.  Ensure plenty of time is allowed for this to happen as the Head is not necessarily available every day.
b)         Notes/letters to parents should be photocopied onto pink paper – this distinguishes them from the general yellow PTA paper – and handed into the office to be distributed.
